Happy Friday the 13th!
Today is a very sacred, super-lucky, goddess-centric kind of day because Friday is the Love Goddess’ day. The English word, Friday, comes from the Norse ‘Freya’s Day’ …and Freya, of course, is the Norse counterpart of Venus / Aphrodite, the Greco-Roman goddess of love and sex and beauty. Freya is also a goddess of war, which brings an altogether different kind of strength to the table today.

13 is a sacred number going back thousands of years and is traditionally held as the number of the divine feminine. There’s 13 moon cycles in a year…so, Friday the 13th is a day that resonates with big significance for both Venusian and Lunar feminine divine energies.
It’s a good day to make a magical wish (spell, whatever ! 🙂 ).
Today, my Friday the 13th wish is this: that in the coming 13 months, Americans have a vast shift in consciousness and accomplish more shadow integration (around issues like racism, sexism, civil rights, income inequality and corporatism to start) than ever, ever before. We’ve recently seen these vast, ugly shadow energies emerging in forms of blatant racism, distraction news, an overt war on women complete with sexual predators out in the open, and national favoritism when responding to disaster relief (and that’s just in the last few weeks.)
Freyja fair and wise,
look on us with loving eyes
as we move from shadow into light
and ferret out what’s wrong and right.
Guide us with your grace through the hate and fear
into a new place in this coming year.
May we heal and rise above banishing anything that is not love.

I have a good feeling about this wish — especially because Jupiter, the bounteous planet of great good luck and higher learning, just entered Scorpio this week. In traditional astrology Scorpio (the sign of sex, death, alchemy, rebirth, the occult and all things weird) is considered a neutral or perhaps even a bit of a detrimental place for happy-go-lucky Jupiter.
… but!

In fact, as I’ve been doing my own shadow work in the last few weeks, a phrase came to mind that really encapsulates the flavor of Jupiter-in-Scorpio energy: obscene joy. That’s right – joy so big, so huge, so forbidden – that it’s taboo.
-What is your magical wish for today?
-Can you get behind some obscene joy?
-Where in your life do you damp down your joy to make other people comfortable? Might you be willing to give yourself permission to feel obscene joy?
